NAEYC
Ethical Responsibilities to Children
I. 1.1 To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.
This is important to my professional life because I need to know everything I can to ensure my students receive the best education they can. Everything I learn I want my students to learn also.
I. 1.4 to appreciate the vulnerability of children and their dependence on adults.
The children depend on us to care for them. They are still developing and learning. They look to us for guidance and support.  We are their family away from home.
Division for Early Childhood (DEC)
Enhancement of Children and Families' Quality of Lives
1. We shall demonstrate our respect  and concern for children, families, colleagues, and others with whom we work, honoring their beliefs, values, customs, languages, and culture.
This is significant to my professioanl life because we will work with and/or for people of diiferent beliefs, culures, languages, and customs. We should treat all people the same, everyone deserves respect.
Hi, Brenda,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you said everyone deserves to be treated with respect. We may work with or provide services for people of different backgrounds, race, gender, etc and they should all be treated with dignity and respect. As for the NAEYC ideals, I, too, agree that its important for educators to stay current in education because we can't teach or lead with old information!
Brenda,
ReplyDeleteI like the ideals you have picked because although they seem very straightforward and simple in their meaning, the impact of following each of these ideals is very powerful. Understanding that we are the people that children are dependent on and that we need to preserve everything else that they are exposed to when they are with their family, yet providing them with the opportunities to learn and absorb diverse and multitude of skills is a noble job that we have to respect and believe in.
Thanks,
Divya
Hello Brenda,I've enjoyed reading your post. Yes children are vulnerable and trust educators to take care of them when they are away from their families. Educators need to realize that education is not a joke nor a game. We hold the future of children's lives in our hands. We must be sure to respect children and treat them very carefully. Yes, educators should and must have some sort of knowledge about early care. How can a teacher or educator know how to handle children while they are going through their many different stages if the educator does not have a clue to how and why children think, act, react, and behave as they do. Working with children is a hands on learning field but eduactor should at least have the basics underneath their belt.
